The word of the day is Pedantic

I always knew I could count on the DU Star to be dull as shit but apparently now I can also count on them to make glaring spelling errors in the fucking headlines!! Can you spot it? Just leave me a note with the misspelled word and you win a prize.

Other (very commonly made) spelling errors the annoy the living hell out of me include ...

1. Weird spelled as "wierd". Freaking everybody does this one. Look, I know it's pronounced like "wee-erd" a bit but you should know by now that English is a strange language and we don't always get to spell things phonetically. Christ's cock and balls... this is the worst.

2. Definitely as "definately".... arrrghhhhhhhhh. Think of the word "finite" when you're spelling this are you'll never forget again.

3. Separate as "seperate" or "seprate"

4. Surprise as "suprise"... I do this one a lot.

5. Signs up in public places with word misuse. Example the Jewel on Ashland and Paulina has a sign that reads "Carts may only be used buy customers."

Got any others?

I cannot for the life of me ever spell 'foreign.'  I had to look it up just now to make sure I got it right, and I DID, but I still had to double check- I've come a long way, though.

But who can't spell 'separate?'  Who are these people?

My bank's drive up window has a sign that says something like "transactions made after 2 p.m. is recorded on the next day." I love when people don't know how to conjugate simple verbs.

Read the book "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves"

I would consider myself more of a grammar nazi than a spelling nazi. Also I hate redundancies such as ATM Machine and PIN Number.

I'm going to go with investors spelled "investers" as the magic prize winning word.
I will be waiting on said prize.

eats, shoots, and leaves is one of my favorites. lynn truss also has a really good one called talk to the hand: the utter bloody rudeness of everyday life (or six good reasons to stay home and bolt the door). not as good as eats... but amusing nonetheless.

also: tomorrow as tomarrow or tommorow.

and "definately" pisses the crap out of me.

(seriously, "investers"? i'm beginning to doubt the value of my english major.)
